Do I need to attend a “Christian” college to earn my online Bachelor of Ministry degree?

Many students assume that to earn a Christian degree, they must attend a Christian-based college. Actually, there are many non-religious based colleges and universities that do offer degree programs in religion or theology. However, often, students find that when researching schools offering online Bachelor of Ministry programs, a Christian based program offered in a particular denomination provides the coursework and expertise needed to fit their personality, as well as, their religious affiliation and educational needs or requirements. With prayer, you can carefully choose a college that fits your needs!

But first, are you ready for college, or more specifically, a ministry degree program? Are you ready for a life-long commitment to serving the Lord? And, sharing the gospel with others? Beginning an online Bachelor of Ministry degree program can be a tough decision for many. You must be motivated and dedicated to succeeding, and most importantly, are you a Christian? Are you aware of the general basics of Bible study and the Christian belief? It is advisable to have the basics of Christianity already in place, as a Bible college will expect you to already know Bible foundations. If not, you may get left behind quickly. Can you follow the rules set forth by your online program? For best results, policy and regulations will need to be followed, especially if you attend any on-campus classes or internships. Certain rules regarding morality and Christian values are enforced.

Proper accreditation is a very important point to explore when choosing a respectable Bible college that offers an online Bachelor of Ministry degree program. Why is accreditation important? It is important because through the accreditation process, a college must be carefully analyzed for its academic and public standing. Who wants to attend a college that does not exemplify the morals and good standing within the community that you deserve in a bachelor’s degree program? Nobody! If you are paying your hard-earned money for a quality education, you deserve the best!

Accreditation ensures you that your chosen school upholds certain study ethics, a code of conduct, is accountable for their academic decisions and provides transferable credits. In addition, accreditation holds colleges to stricter graduation requirements, therefore, providing you with a quality education. If a college’s reputation is of importance to you, as it should be, verify that it is accredited by the Association for Biblical Higher Education (ABHE) or by the Transnational Association of Christian Colleges and Schools (TRACS). These establishments are designed to protect your valuable time and your investment in your education. Employers look favorably upon an accredited college as opposed to one that is not.

Are you concerned about the learning format of an online Bachelor of Ministry degree program? Well, you shouldn’t be, however, distance learning through an online program takes discipline and commitment. In this format, most students often are juggling busy work schedules and family responsibilities. An online format gives students the opportunity to do it all. And… rest assured, you will have plenty of chances to communicate with your instructors, as well as, fellow classmates. With like-minded Christians, in-depth, thought-provoking discussions are sure to be the highlight of your degree program, along with, the life-long friends you will make along your journey.

If you would like to gain a more specific training on a certain topic, some Bible colleges offer online degrees that encourage you to concentrate in areas such as, youth and/or children’s ministries or in a music ministry. In these types of programs, you are surrounded by peers that also have a common interest as you, therefore, making the learning process fun and informative.

In a majority of today’s public colleges and universities, God is not “allowed” to attend. So, should you attend a Christian college? That is a personal decision that only you can make, however, if your values, morals and religious affiliation are important to you, attending a Christian college is worth considering, no doubt.  Your choice of college can have a profound impact on your life.
